Creating my video was both fascinating and frustrating. At first, I was honestly amazed by how advanced the platform is. The range of filters and backgrounds was very cool. The lifelike avatars made the experience feel almost surreal and a bit scary. It challenged my assumptions about how realistic AI-generated media can be, and it pushed me to think more creatively about how to present my ideas visually and narratively.
However, as I explored the “professional” filter, I was disappointed by the limited representation of Black characters compared to the overwhelming number of white avatars. That imbalance felt telling, especially on a platform meant to simulate real-world communication. It made me more aware of how bias can be embedded in technology, even in tools designed for creativity and innovation.
I decided to take a humorous approach, writing a satirical “breaking news” script where a fictional anchor, Candace Moore, announces that I was given the key to the city for my good vibes. The absurdity of policies like mandatory pink outfits allowed me to experiment with exaggeration and tone. A major positive was learning how accessible AI tools can be for content creation. A major negative was recognizing their limitations in representation. It greatly reflects societal gaps that still need to be addressed.
